MMA Punch

For those of you within 2 hours of Manchester, NH, there’s something fun and unique for you to do this Saturday night. Black and Blue Entertainment of Hooksett, NH presents their second ever Cage Fight Mixed Martial Arts event, which they are calling, “Blunt Force Trauma”.

The fights are put together by Roger Woo and Barbara Woo of Team Woo, an MMA team located in Hooksett, NH. The two of them alternate teaching my Thai Kickboxing class, and spend hours training and coaching the Team Woo fighters. Roger is also half owner of the previously mentioned Black and Blue Entertainment, which is organizing the event.

This is going to be a tight show. The first show went off with much praise and success, and this time there looks to be even more, higher quality match-ups. I would say 3/4 of the fighters last time had losing records; the winner of the main event was 4-15 coming into the fight. This time we will be watching some real competitors.

The current fight card looks like this (subject to change without prior notice):

Manny Ramirez Ass Just Got Traded to the Dodgers

The Fall of Manny Ramirez
The Fall of Manny Ramirez

All hail the baseball gods for they have seen fit to respect my wishes. Mangina Ramirez is now officially an LA Dodger! Unfortunately the Red Sox will have to pay the remaining $7 mil of his bloated contract, but that price is well worth being rid of him once and for all. Let the Pirates deal with his options.

The Red Sox Get Jason Bay

Two-time All-Star slugger Jason Bay is coming to the Red Sox as part of the 3-way deal that will also send 4 minor leaguers to the the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates also get Brandon Moss, which stinks because Moss seems like a decent outfield prospect, and Craig Hansen, who is a crappy bullpen pitcher that mostly plays in losing games or gives up a bunch of earned runs and loses the game anyway.

It’s Just Manny Being All About Manny

Manny Ramirez
Manny Ramirez

As a Red Sox fan, I feel the need to vent about Manny Ramirez. You’ve heard the expression, “It’s just Manny being Manny”, well the reality is, as ESPN put it, “It’s just Manny being about Manny”. This guy is a jerk. He doesn’t care about the fans or the team or his teammates. Every single year he complains about the Red Sox, says he is sick of the team, that he wants to be traded. This is fine by me. I say, “Trade the fat bastard.”

Digg Killed Project Swole

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Recently I have succumbed to a couple of front page appearances on the popularity website Digg.com. Though I had the WP-Super-Cache WordPress plug-in enabled, my server crashed. Twice. The problem is that my sites have been hosted on shared servers, and the CPU resources (and possibly memory) were consumed, crashing the systems.

First I had to move from Host Gator to The Prime Host, and now I’ve had to move from The Prime Host to one of my friend’s VPS systems hosted at HostForWeb.com. Now I’m looking into getting a dedicated server over at eSecureData.com and loading up the software manually. Whatever it takes to keep the Digg gators at bay I guess.

Unfortunately Project Swole does not make any money, so I might institute a PayPal donations button here shortly, although I don’t expect anyone to actually use it. I don’t want to add any additional advertising to the site though, so I’m going to have to figure out a way to support this. Not quite sure what I’m going to do yet.

Digg vs Project Swole
Digg vs Project Swole

So anyway, if you plan on sticking with Project Swole through all of this Digg mayhem then I thank you immensely. Although I am extremely busy with my personal life right now, I am definitely going to try to keep posting regularly. The information should still be worthwhile, as I plan to tackle more specific and hardcore topics than stuff like “10 Ways to Diet Better“. If you stick around long enough, you are in for a treat.

That’s it for now, I’ve gotta get back to work.

Technorati Authority Experiment

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

The goal of Project Swole is not just to publish useful content for people interested in health, fitness, and nutrition, but also to proliferate that information throughout the Internet. Browsing Digg the other day, I came upon a site conducting a link experiment. I have no idea what this has to do with Technorati, but just because I’m curious as to how far it will spread, I am going to jump on the bandwagon and track it.

What the Heck Am I Talking About?

The stuff I am supposed to post is as follows:

Building a Business, Making a Million (or, why I haven’t been posting)

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Self Employment

Ever since I was 8 years old I wanted to be a millionaire. Even in my youth I immediately realized the importance of money. It began with collecting comic books and baseball cards. Strategically collecting the ones that I thought would be worth most, in hopes of reselling them for future profit. This led into my first multi-level-marketing experience around the age of 18. I have attempted various schemes and scams, tried doing exactly what the rich did, and tried my hand at eBay and other various retail sales ventures. I even started personal training because it was ‘my own business’, but made the mistake of working for a gym rather than working for myself. For the most part, all of my ventures have been failures, EXCEPT for the one vital component that we must never forget: Every failure has at least one groundbreaking lesson, and the only true mistake is the one we make twice.

Ultimately, my lessons and studies led me to my final decision regarding how I could be a millionaire. It involves a step by step process that virtually guarantees success:

  1. I must work for myself, making money for myself, charging my own rates.
  2. I must do something that I love.
  3. I must become an expert in the industry.
  4. I must network like crazy, building a list of professional affiliations and associations.
  5. I must sub contract the grunt work to minions.
  6. I must develop a stream of residual income.
  7. I must partner with someone, or train someone to run the business like it was their own.
  8. If possible, given the timeframe of life, repeat these steps until rich.

How Do These Things Relate to This Post?

Well, I have developed a business with Tasen Software wherein I design, build, and maintain custom computer software and websites. My backlog of work is so tremendous, I am still completing projects from 2006 in June of 2007. Every day that I get out of work, I am forced to go home to my office and work. There is no time for family or relaxation, or even for getting all of my work done. I have decided that I must quit my full-time job and join the ranks of the self-employed, and so this is what I have done.

I am planning on working as a contractor for at least two days per week, and working on my own business three days per week, plus nights and weekends. To this extent I believe I am on my way to making my first million, AND I should be able to get back in the gym three days a week now. Three cheers for self-employment!!

Now, let the REAL hard work begin. I am coming for YOU Gates!
