John Berardi |
Since the late 1990’s Dr. John Berardi has published 8 scientific abstracts; 15 scientific papers and textbook chapters; presented at nearly 50 scientific, exercise, and nutrition related conferences; and published countless articles online.
His first articles at Testosterone Magazine so many years ago, provided me with the basis for everything I know about nutrition today. Now I will turn some of that knowledge over to you in the form of Nutrition Tips written by Dr. Berardi himself.
Today’s Topic – Eating Fat to Lose Fat
Is it true that we should eat fat in order to lose fat?
Clearly some fats are good fats and some fats are bad fats. Saturated fats and trans fats are bad for you. Omega-3 fats are good for you.
As a general rule of thumb, to be healthy you want to avoid those bad fats, which are found in foods as:
- Cows (beef, steak, ribs, burgers)
- Pigs (pork chops, bacon)
- Sheep (lamb, veal)
- Foods that are solid at room temp but are soft and melt easily (margarine, shortening, butter)
But how can eating fat actually help you lose fat?
- Fats tends to satiate hunger. Eat fat, feel full.
- Some omega-3s speed up the metabolism. Eat fat, burn calories.
- Fish oil supplementation is directly linked to muscle gains. Eat fat, build muscle.
- Fats are higher in calories (1 g = 9 calories) than carbs and protein, which means you are eating less food to hit your daily calorie requirement, which means your stomach will actually get used to eating smaller meals, helping you to avoid hunger in your daily life.
Which Product Should You Use?
Recoup|90 |
I was recently sent a sample of a product called recoup|90, which is specially formulated using ultra pure pharmaceutical grade EPA, to help alleviate DOMS and improve post-workout recovery.
Very shortly I will post my own review of recoup|90 after I try it out for a month. In the meantime you can find the product at Recoup|90.
At this time I feel very strongly about this product. I believe it will provide a safe and easy way for me to dump some omega 3’s into my body right after strenuous lifting.
Get Precision Nutrition |
A diet supplemented with fish or flax oil will provide your body the nutrients it needs to both elevate metabolism and also build muscle mass. But don’t take my word for it.
Let’s see what JB has to say about it:
Tip: Eat Fat, Lose Fat
“To lose fat, sometimes you have to eat fat.
Monounsaturated fats and certain polyunsaturates actually speed up the metabolic rate. Lipid researchers believe that the best of the fat burning bunch are the highly unsaturated omega 3s called EPA and DHA.
A diet supplemented with omega 3-rich fish oil promotes losses of body fat with simultaneous gains in lean mass. “

saturated fats are actually very healthy and your body needs them. Has everyone been brainwashed??
Yes Shawn, everyone has been brainwashed.

Robor: Yes
Dr. John Berardi is awesome. I love the information he publishes, he’s probably one of the top authorities in the fitness world.
Regarding fat intake, too many people survive on the bad saturated fats that do nothing but make us bigger. By moving onto olive oil, fish oil, etc, we can lose quite a bit of weight if we removed saturated and trans fats
Hey, Owner.
Can I take a photo from your site?
Of course, i will place a backlink to source.
