I haven’t verified this tip yet, but Charles Staley once said that you can lift more weight if you look at your dominant hand when benching. Although you are not supposed to turn your head at all.
Really, I have no idea if this works, but if you give it a try please let us know what happens. It doesn’t sound like anything I would ever tell anyone to do, but maybe it has a place in max effort training?
I remain skeptical.

sounds somewhat like a placebo situation, what I’ve found works with benching more weight instantly is having someonelse set up your bench for you. im a relitivley light weight kid myself (145) and i usualy only can bench my body weight or less, last week i had a friend set up my 3rd set while i ran to the water fountain at the gym and he set up a 165lb rack. i lifted it to 10 reps with help but was the most id ever done. sometimes we just need that push
Actually I heard a variation on this…and it does work. If one of your hands is “dragging” behind the other look at that hand.”Visualization”? Maybe.
This sounds like a ridiculous notion, but Charles Staley is pretty smart so perhaps I’ll give it a try.
